The reasons for pursuing body enhancement vary from unhappiness with the way one looks, to a desire to reconstruct the body (for example, after surgery such as a mastectomy).
If you’re planning to take up bodybuilding or an exercise program to achieve your enhancement goals, make sure to see your doctor first. It’s important you know whether your body can handle the physical stress of a workout routine.
If you’re considering surgical body enhancement, make sure your doctor has extensive plastic surgery experience in the particular procedure you’re considering. Beware: Any doctor with a valid medical license can perform plastic surgery. Make sure your surgeon is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery, American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, or is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (in Canada, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada). All ASPS and ASAPS members are board-certified.
Perhaps you’re considering non-surgical body enhancement such as a chemical peel, microdermabrasion, permanent makeup, hair removal, or varicose vein therapy – the possibilities extend to every area of the body! As with any procedure, do your research ahead of time to ensure happy results. Some resources are below.
